The most immediately noticeable thing about Lycos Chat is how different it looks from rival sites, thanks to its jet-black background and wide array of visual effects. These combine to give each chat room a cheerful appearance as users brighten up discussions with text of different sizes, styles and colours. Lycos Chat is fairly youth-orientated with rooms such as Clubbing, Games and the ever-popular Teen Flirt, though there are more general options like Business, Cars and Relationships. The Select Status feature is a nice touch - it gives you a selection of messages (got a call, or I'm in a meeting) that you can send for those times when you have to leave your keyboard.
